Workshop on the Sustainable Use of Living Marine Resources
Casablanca, Morocco, 20–21 May 2026
As part of the implementation of the provisions of the Declaration adopted at the 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Ministers held in Abidjan on 24 April 2025, ATLAFCO organized an awareness-raising workshop for its Member States in Casablanca on 20 and 21 May 2026. The workshop focused on the principle of the sustainable use of living marine resources, in line with the Declaration’s objectives of harmonizing Member States’ positions within international and regional fisheries management organizations, promoting solidarity among Member States, and encouraging the sustainable use of living marine resources based on scientific evidence.
The principle of the sustainable use of living marine resources is also consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14). Through its implementation, it contributes to food security, job creation, and the social stability of fishing communities in coastal countries.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for representatives of Member States to exchange views on the key issues related to the upcoming biennial meeting of the International Whaling Commission, which will take place in Australia from 27 September to 2 October 2026.
