During this session, both parties committed to strengthening technical cooperation between the two institutions and to working towards achieving the objectives of ocean and fisheries sustainability, marine ecosystem preservation, blue transformation, support for the development of aquaculture and the circular economy, promotion of technological innovation, mitigation of the effects of climate change through the adaptation of fisheries policies and decarbonization, as well as the enhancement of scientific research and maritime training.

Emphasis was also placed on the role of ATLAFCO in supporting its Member States in the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), strengthening mechanisms to combat IUU fishing, promoting the accession of all its Member States to the International Treaty on the Protection of the High Seas and Marine Biodiversity (BBNJ Agreement), and, more broadly, to any other relevant international instrument aimed at improving ocean governance, in line with the spirit of the Abidjan Declaration adopted on April 24, 2025, by the 11th Ordinary Session of the ATLAFCO Conference of Ministers.

The session also highlighted the importance of consolidating regional support for effective and targeted capacity-building in the countries of the region, as well as the role of ATLAFCO in this area, to achieve sustainable development as emphasized by Target 17.9 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
