The Executive Secretary paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Mr. Fassou THEA, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of the Republic of Guinea, the new incumbent President of ATLAFCO

During this audience, attended by the Minister’s close collaborators, the Executive Secretary extended his congratulations, on behalf of himself and the Secretariat staff, for the trust placed in His Excellency and wished him every success in his new high office.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Executive Secretary to present the President with the Organization’s new 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan, adopted on 24 April 2025 in Abidjan during the 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Ministers.
He also discussed with the Presidency the upcoming activities for the last quarter of the current year and sought guidance on the priorities to be considered for actions planned for 2026.
His Excellency Mr. Fassou THEA welcomed the Secretariat’s continued commitment to supporting the Organization’s incumbent Presidency.
He expressed satisfaction with the convergence of views recorded during the audience, particularly regarding upcoming priorities, which constitutes a guarantee of success for the Organization in implementing the projects scheduled under the 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan.
His Excellency reaffirmed his availability to continue, alongside the Secretariat staff, the efforts to be deployed for the implementation of priority actions in the interest of the Organization and all its Member States.
11th ordinary session of the Conference of Ministers of ATLAFCO

The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire hosted the 11th ordinary session of the Conference of Ministers of ATLAFCO on April 24, 2025, in Abidjan.
At the opening of this session, HE Robert Beugré Mambé, Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire, recalled the important role played by ATLAFCO in strengthening regional fisheries cooperation, its active contribution to the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture, as well as to the emergence of a continental blue economy.
During this session, which was attended by numerous ministers and high representatives of the Member States, a new three-year Strategic Action Plan for the period 2025-2027 was approved.
This is a new reference framework which sets out the guidelines to be followed and the objectives to be achieved in accordance with the spirit and objectives of the Convention and aims to translate into practice the desire expressed by the Member States to act together to ensure that the fisheries and aquaculture sector has the necessary conditions for its sustainable development so that it can contribute substantially to the economic and social progress of the countries of the ATLAFCO zone.
On the financial level, the Member States approved the plan and the financing schedule presented for the implementation and implementation of the 22 projects included in this strategic action plan which are structured around seven (7) strategic axes.
Furthermore, this important session was crowned by the election of Mrs. Fatima CAMARA, Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Maritime Economy of Guinea, as current President of ATLAFCO for the period 2025-2027.
