The Executive Secretary paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Mr. Fassou THEA, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of the Republic of Guinea, the new incumbent President of ATLAFCO

During this audience, attended by the Minister’s close collaborators, the Executive Secretary extended his congratulations, on behalf of himself and the Secretariat staff, for the trust placed in His Excellency and wished him every success in his new high office.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Executive Secretary to present the President with the Organization’s new 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan, adopted on 24 April 2025 in Abidjan during the 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Ministers.
He also discussed with the Presidency the upcoming activities for the last quarter of the current year and sought guidance on the priorities to be considered for actions planned for 2026.
His Excellency Mr. Fassou THEA welcomed the Secretariat’s continued commitment to supporting the Organization’s incumbent Presidency.
He expressed satisfaction with the convergence of views recorded during the audience, particularly regarding upcoming priorities, which constitutes a guarantee of success for the Organization in implementing the projects scheduled under the 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan.
His Excellency reaffirmed his availability to continue, alongside the Secretariat staff, the efforts to be deployed for the implementation of priority actions in the interest of the Organization and all its Member States.
Courtesy visit of His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan to the headquarters of the COMHAFAT Executive Secretariat

His Excellency Mr. NAKATA Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan, accompanied by Mrs. MAKANA Nio, Second Secretary, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Executive Secretariat in Rabat on September 1, 2025.
During this first meeting, both parties had the opportunity to review achievements within the framework of fisheries cooperation between Japan and COMHAFAT, particularly regarding the sustainable use of living marine resources and ways to further strengthen this cooperation.
The new Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Morocco reiterated his Government’s support for COMHAFAT’s activities, especially the projects included in the new 2025-2027 Strategic Action Plan, adopted at the 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Ministers on April 24 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
This working session also provided an opportunity for both parties to commend the excellence of the relations between COMHAFAT member states and Japan within international fisheries and fisheries management bodies, as well as their shared views on management measures adopted to ensure the sustainability of fisheries, based on scientific evidence.
Courtesy and working visit to the headquarters of the Executive Secretariat by His Excellency Mr. Joseph AHANHANZO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Benin to the Kingdom of Morocco, accompanied by Mr. First Counselor.

During this visit, His Excellency the Ambassador and the accompanying delegation discussed the projects included in the new 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan, adopted by the Organization at the 11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Ministers on April 24 in Abidjan. They also reaffirmed the Republic of Benin’s support for ATLAFCO’s activities and its commitment to ensuring their success.
Topics addressed during the meeting included ocean sustainability, the blue economy, the development of marine aquaculture, the fight against plastic pollution, resilience to the effects of climate change, the sustainable use of living marine resources, as well as other current issues in the fisheries sector.
